The role will be responsible for the design and implementation of software features across our R&D applications. The Associate Data Engineer will work with a highly collaborative team of engineers and research scientists to translate business requirements into products and features that support R&D activities and Data Science discoveries.</p><p><strong>Technologies we use:</strong> Python, .NET, FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, Postgres, Neo4J, Typescript, Next.js, AWS, Terraform</p><h3>Position Summary</h3><p>The successful candidate has prior data engineering experience with engineering background in multiple programming languages and technical platforms. Write, test, debug, and maintain software based on the requirements provided and with direction or guidance from more senior members of the team. Generate code adhering to standards as defined by the data software team, document development tasks and decisions, participate in effective code reviews, and participate in team meetings. Follow standard and effective data software development methodologies and release processes.</p><h3>You Will</h3><h4>Essential Duties and Responsibilities</h4><ul><li>Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable applications and systems using Python, Typescript/JavaScript, and AWS</li><li>Work with users to understand end-user requirements, formulate use cases, and translate them into pragmatic and effective technical designs</li><li>Enable creative, scalable engineering solutions for data gathering and integration of structured and unstructured data sets</li><li>Continuously improve and maintain code quality through writing unit tests, automation, and code reviews</li><li>Contribute ideas to help improve our technology, coding standards, and products</li></ul><h3>You Have</h3><h4>Competencies and Qualifications</h4><h4>Education</h4><ul><li>B.S. in computer science, data science, life science, or other technical field</li></ul><h4>Experience</h4><ul><li>2 years of professional data and software development experience</li><li>Knowledge of web frameworks such as Next.js</li><li>Knowledge of API frameworks such as FastAPI</li><li>Relational database experience</li><li>CICD experience</li><li>Experience with AWS cloud platform or other cloud platforms</li><li>OOP and software design knowledge – can write software that's extensible, reusable, and meets desired architectural objectives</li></ul><h4>Additional Skills</h4><ul><li>Ability to focus and work independently with little direction</li><li>Familiarity with Linux / Unix environments</li><li>Experience building data pipelines and ETL jobs in the cloud</li><li>Should have exposure to Agile</li><li>Self-motivated to learn new technologies</li><li>Neo4j or graph databases a plus</li><li>C# .Net a plus</li></ul><h4>Preference Given to Applicants with the Following</h4><ul><li>Experience with DevOps & Cloud Security best practices</li><li>Experience with IaC such as Terraform</li></ul><h3>We have a Total Rewards Package at Benson Hill that consists of more than just your paycheck.
