Position Overview
The Illinois School for the Deaf, Morgan County, is seeking to hire a dynamic Career and Technical Educator. This position applies teaching skills, which transcend those generally utilized in teaching standard Career and Technical education courses, by adapting and accommodating standard practices, equipment, and specialized teaching techniques to meet the specific needs and characteristics of students with hearing loss and other additional disabilities.
Job Responsibilities
- Serves as a Career and Technical Educator for the Illinois School for the Deaf (ISD).
- Plans and implements daily instructional lessons and unit plans consistent with written career and technical education curriculum and programs of study.
- Selects, designs, and provides modifications of a sequential instructional curriculum to meet the needs of students assigned in such areas as Technology & Engineering Education, Business, Marketing, and Computer Education, Family and Consumer Science, Agricultural Education, and Health Science Technology.
- Plans and coordinates semi-curricular and extra-curricular activities supplemental to the classroom.
- Maintains daily attendance records and advises the supervisor of any problems with student attendance.
- Manages the care and use of equipment and supplies.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires possession of a current, valid Educator License with Stipulations (ELS) issued by ISBE appropriately endorsed for Career Technical Educator and each grade level, content area and instructional area approved and assigned to work.
- Requires the ability to communicate with individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing using manual sign language at Intermediate Plus level on the SLPI rating scale (Sign Language Proficiency Interview).
Preferred Qualifications
- An Educator License with Stipulations (ELS) endorsement in one of the five Career Technical Educator (CTE) areas (Agriculture Education, Business, Marketing, and Computer Education, Family & Consumer Science, Health Science Technology, and Technical & Engineering Education (Industrial).
- Two (2) years of professional experience utilizing practices & methods in one of the five Career Technical Educator (CTE) areas (Agriculture Education, Business, Marketing, and Computer Education, Family & Consumer Science, Health Science Technology, and Technical & Engineering Education (Industrial).
- Two (2) years of professional experience utilizing and instructing others in the proper and safe use of tools, materials, and equipment associated with one of the five Career Technical Educator (CTE) areas (Agriculture Education, Business, Marketing, and Computer Education, Family & Consumer Science, Health Science Technology, and Technical & Engineering Education (Industrial).
- Two (2) years of professional experience planning for the completion of instruction and projects.
- Two (2) years of professional experience organizing and implementing activities for a group.
- One (1) year of professional experience teaching or supervising the projects of deaf and hard of hearing students.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
