This job opening is for one Material/Process Tech I, II or III depending on business need and applicant's qualifications and experience. Qualification and experience will determine the applicant's position and pay.
  
Material/Process Tech I – A13 | $32,439 - $49,388 yearly (L242)  
Material/Process Tech II – A15 | $35,976 - $55,045 yearly (L245)  
Material/Process Tech III – A17| $39,976 - $61,399 yearly (L250)

Position Description Job Description for Material/Process Tech I:
Performs routine material tests and manufacturing process inspections in laboratories, plants and/or at points of supply. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
Job Description for Material/Process Tech II:
Performs routine and non-routine material tests and manufacturing process inspections in laboratories, plants and/or at points of supply. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
Job Description for Material/Process Tech III:
Performs advanced material tests and manufacturing process inspections in laboratories, plants and/or at points of supply. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
Essential Duties for a Material/Process Tech I, II or III:
* Assists in preparing material designs for concrete, hot mix asphaltic concrete, base, aggregate and other materials.
* Cleans laboratory.
* Conducts nuclear density tests on subgrade, base and asphaltic concrete pavement.
* Informs plant personnel of material or production problems and rejects substandard material.
* Inspects materials at point of supply to ensure materials conform to Department specifications.
* Performs construction inspection.
* Performs routine material tests and inspects manufacturing processes and plant equipment in a manufacturing plant to ensure materials conform to Department specifications; as required moves material sample.
* Records test data on worksheets and performs calculations to convert raw data into specific units of measurement.
* Sets up field record books for each construction project within assigned area.
* Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Essential Duties for a Material/Process Tech II or III:
* Advises supervisor of inspection activities and problems at plants and assists in coordinating inspections.
* Inspects manufacturing processes and plant equipment in a manufacturing plant or inspects materials at point of supply to ensure materials conform to Department specifications.
* Investigates compaction problems associated with hot mix asphaltic concrete.
* Maintains and assists in calibrating equipment.
* Maintains inventory of test supplies.
* Conducts research and development and prepares material designs for concrete, hot mix asphaltic concrete, base, aggregate and other materials.
* Reports test results to field construction personnel and may assist in determining cause for material problems.
* Travels to laboratories, manufacturing plants, points of supply, warehouses and project sites to monitor status of programs, meet with supervisors and managers to resolve problems and perform unannounced inspection of operations.
* Conducts nuclear density tests on subgrade, base and asphaltic concrete pavement.
Essential Dutiesfor a Material/Process Tech III:
* Conducts pavement evaluations in the field.
* Handles material or production problems referred by less experienced inspectors.
* Independently performs advanced material tests, inspects manufacturing processes and plant equipment in a manufacturing plant or inspects materials at point of supply to ensure conformance to Department specifications.
* Maintains and calibrates equipment.
* Maintains field record books for each construction project within assigned area office.
* May serve as a lead worker and the related tasks.
* Informs plant personnel of material or production problems, rejects substandard material and assists in determining cause for material problems.
* Investigates compaction problems associated with hot mix asphaltic concrete.
* Maintains a diary of inspection or test details.
* Prepares and types correspondence, reports and supporting documents; files, orders supplies and equipment.
* Prepares inspection or test reports.
* Secures, logs in and prepares samples of raw materials or manufactured materials at various stages of production for testing.
 Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
Experience for a Material/Process Tech I: 2 years laboratory work, material inspection or other eng-related activities.
Experience for a Material/Process Tech II: 3 years laboratory work, material inspection or other eng-related activities.
Experience for a Material/Process Tech III: 4 years laboratory work, material inspection or other eng-related activities. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated parttime equivalent). *Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.* Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

* Subject to noise
