<p><strong>Title:</strong> Education Department Intern <strong>Department:</strong> Education <strong>Reports To:</strong> Volunteer Services Coordinator <strong>Job Type:</strong> Part-time/Full-time <strong>Pay:</strong> Unpaid</p><p><strong>Job Summary:</strong> Join the San Antonio Museum of Art (SAMA) as an Education Department Volunteer, an unpaid position open to adults of all ages, including college students and beyond. Volunteers are needed especially to assist in the facilitation of art classes at Haven for Hope. No professional skills are required, making this an inclusive opportunity for those with a passion for art and education.</p><p><strong>Responsibilities and Duties:</strong></p><ul><li>Assist the Education Department in preparing and executing classroom activities, such as art classes for women and children at Haven for Hope.</li><li>Provide one-on-one or small-group support to program participants, offering activity guidance and encouragement.</li><li>Participate in a range of events and activities hosted by SAMA (including Family Days, outdoor film screenings, and other large-scale activations), contributing to the overall success of the Museum's educational programs.</li><li>Assist in maintaining classroom organization and cleanliness, ensuring that the space is conducive to learning.</li><li>Attend training sessions and meetings as required to stay updated on program guidelines and objectives.</li></ul><p><strong>Qualifications:</strong></p><ul><li>Passion for education and art.</li><li>Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with diverse populations.</li><li>Reliable, punctual, and committed to the scheduled volunteer hours.</li><li>Patient, empathetic, and able to adapt to various learning styles and needs.</li><li>Experience in working with children, youth, or underserved populations is a plus.</li><li>Education background in a relevant field (e.g., education, art, social work, psychology, etc.) is preferred.</li><li>Basic proficiency in sending and receiving email is required.</li><li>Final acceptance as a volunteer is contingent upon successfully passing a criminal background check.</li></ul><p><strong>Volunteer Time Period:</strong> Year-Round</p><p><strong>Work Time:</strong> Flexible, with opportunities to contribute to various events and initiatives. Regular volunteer opportunities are available on most Mondays (2:00–4:00 p.m. and 6:00–8:00 p.m. on alternating weeks).</p><p><strong>Physical Requirements:</strong></p><ul><li>Occasionally move items weighing up to 15 pounds.</li><li>Must be able to sit and stand for long periods of time.</li><li>Physical ability to work around children, sitting, standing, running, and climbing stairs.</li></ul><p><strong>Work Location:</strong> The work will take place both at the Museum and Haven for Hope.</p><p><strong>About the San Antonio Museum of Art:</strong> The San Antonio Museum of Art serves as a forum to explore and connect with art that spans the world’s geographies, artistic periods, genres, and cultures. The Museum is housed in the historic Lone Star Brewery on the Museum Reach of San Antonio’s River Walk and is committed to promoting the rich cultural heritage and life of the city. It hosts hundreds of events and public programs each year, including concerts, performances, tours, lectures, symposia, and interactive experiences.
