Terrapin Restaurant, voted Best Farm to Table Restaurant of the Hudson Valley and Best Bistro of the Hudson Valley, is seeking an experienced pastry chef to join our kitchen team.
The ideal candidate is reliable and self motivated with a passion for farm to table, seasonal cooking.
Job responsibilities include preparing a variety of desserts, pastries and breads for daily service in our bistro, dining room and seasonal patios. Your skill in baking high quality desserts should be matched by your creativity to develop new and recipes. The ideal candidate will be well-versed in culinary arts with a passion for sweet and delicious creations.
Responsibilities
* Prepare a wide variety of goods such as cakes, cookies, pies, bread etc. following traditional and modern recipes
* Work with executive chef to create new and exciting desserts to renew our menus and engage the interest of customers
* Decorate pastries and cakes using different icings, toppings etc.
* Monitor stocks for baking ingredients such as flour, sugar etc.
* Check quality of material and condition of equipment and devices used for cooking
* Must be available for both prep shifts (typically daytime) and service shifts (at least one weekend evening will be required).
Skills
* Proven experience in a professional restaurant kitchen
* Experience making custom cakes to order
* Great attention to detail and creativity
* Working knowledge of baking with ingredient limitations (pastries that are gluten free, sugarless etc.)
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: 30 – 40 per week
