<h3>Job Description Summary</h3><p>GE Vernova’s Advanced Research business is the central innovation engine for GE’s portfolio of energy businesses, which will be unified under one banner called GE Vernova. The research organization is made up of 250+ researchers representing virtually every major scientific and engineering discipline. Collectively, they are driving major research programs and initiatives to decarbonize power, accelerate renewables, and promote electrification and the creation of a 21st century grid fit to power a zero-carbon energy future.</p><p>As a Principal Embedded Software Engineer, you will be responsible for architecting, implementing, and testing of Edge solutions for embedded systems. You will have the opportunity to lead multimillion-dollar R&D programs aligned with GE Vernova’s energy businesses such as Power Generation, Renewables, and Hydro as well as with U.S. Government Agencies such as the Department of Defense and the Department of Energy. The technologies developed under these programs will be matured and transitioned into GE business products. You will shape and foster strategic collaborations with government partners, national laboratories, universities, and strategic business partners to drive innovative embedded computing solutions for GE.</p><h3>Job Description</h3><h3>Roles and Responsibilities:</h3><ul><li>Work with U.S. government agencies to shape winning proposals and lead projects that will create innovative solutions to protect the nation’s most critical infrastructure.</li><li>Work with GE businesses to help transition edge computing, real-time embedded controls, and embedded communication systems from early-stage lab demonstrations to fieldable prototypes.</li><li>Design, model, simulate, implement, and optimize real-time critical embedded systems.</li><li>Work with hardware suppliers and engineering tool providers to identify and select solutions for challenging industrial and defense applications.</li><li>Collaborate with universities, industrial consortiums, commercial partners, and others to advance the state of the art in embedded computing.</li><li>Publish technical papers, file patents, and contribute to open-source communities.</li></ul><h3>Required Qualifications:</h3><ul><li>Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related disciplines with a minimum of 10 years of industry experience OR Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related disciplines with a minimum of 13 years of industry experience OR Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related disciplines with a minimum of 15 years of industry experience.</li><li>Proven track record of writing winning proposals with U.S. government agencies such as DOE, ARPA-e, CESER, DOD, DARPA, etc.</li><li>Strong embedded programming skills (e.g., C/C++/C#, Java, Python, MATLAB, etc.).</li><li>Experience with Linux driver and/or Linux kernel development.</li><li>Experience with Linux build systems (e.g., Yocto).</li><li>Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening.</li><li>Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY</li><li>Must be 18 years or older.</li></ul><h3>Desired Characteristics:</h3><ul><li>Working knowledge of real-time hypervisors (e.g., RTS, VxWorks) and containers (e.g., Docker).</li><li>Experience with real-time operating systems (e.g., QNX, RTLinux, etc.).</li><li>Understanding of embedded system security requirements and cyber security techniques.</li></ul><p>The base pay range for this position is $127,900-$213,100. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for a performance bonus.
