The National Policy Analyst translates science with a special focus on prevention in the areas of nutrition, obesity, physical activity, tobacco, hypertension for local, state and federal advocacy and is an expert within American Heart Association on these particular topics. Convenes leading authorities domestically and globally to address emerging policy topics in areas of expertise to guide the Association's policy development, write policy papers and position statements. Helps develop content for policy briefs, fact sheets, regulatory comments, and other material that supports, positions, and provides a foundation for American Heart Association advocacy efforts. Sheperds' policy statements from conception through publication, and serves occasionally as an author in areas of expertise. Interacts with relevant government agencies and handles a certain number of external relationships with coalitions and partners aligned with particular areas of the advocacy portfolio. Participates on and sometimes leads intra-departmental and interdepartmental working groups. Be Valued™ at the American Heart Association by following us on LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and at heart.jobs.</p><p>Responsibilities</p><ul><li>Serves as a national policy analyst for prevention translating science into policy for assigned strategic issues and policy development supporting state/federal advocacy.</li><li>Is a recognized authority on these issues both internally and external to the American Heart Association.</li><li>Develops policy statements (published and unpublished), regulatory comments, model legislation, policy briefs, and other material to support of Association advocacy and programmatic efforts.</li><li>Sheperd policy papers from conception to publication, interacting with writing groups, convening experts domestically and globally, serving as an author occasionally when applicable in areas of expertise, managing the writing process, and balancing difference of opinion.</li><li>Interacts with government agencies, coalitions, and/or external partners relevant to the Association's advocacy work.</li><li>Represents the Association at conferences and meetings. Will occasionally serve as a speaker on behalf of the Association in areas of expertise.</li><li>Represents policy research by leading or participating on interdepartmental and intra-departmental working groups.</li><li>Helps support the Advocacy Coordinating Committee meetings with content in the areas of expertise, providing materials for the agenda, and serving as a liaison with the volunteers in certain policy areas.</li></ul><p>Want to help get your resume to the top? Take a look at the experience we require:</p><p>Qualifications</p><ul><li>Masters or PhD in Nutrition, Physical Activity/Exercise Physiology, Health Policy or other Prevention-related field.</li><li>Experience translating science into policy.</li><li>Excellent oral and written communication skills.</li><li>Knowledge of health policy issues including prevention (nutrition, obesity, physical activity, tobacco, hypertension).</li><li>Ability to develop external relationships with government agencies, national coalitions, or other potential partners for American Heart Association advocacy work.</li><li>Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.</li><li>Ability to work under deadline pressures.</li></ul><p>Compensation & Benefits</p><p>The American Heart Association invests in its people.
